Description2-oxoglutarate(2-), also known as alpha-Ketoglutaric acid or 2-Oxoglutaric acid, is classified as a gamma-keto acid or a Gamma-keto acid derivative. Gamma-keto acids are organic compounds containing an aldehyde substituted with a keto group on the C4 carbon atom. 2-oxoglutarate(2-) is considered to be soluble (in water) and acidic. 2-oxoglutarate(2-) may be a unique E.coli metabolite 2-Oxoglutarate(2-) is found to be associated with fumarase deficiency, which is an inborn error of metabolism.
